Being a Sloth and Loving it!

my opinion, slothfulness gets a bad rep. It’s the name of an animal that moves kind of slothfully and is defined by humans as laziness that ranges on the scale from resisting work to practicing a deadly sin. However, it’s defined, that sloth is not a pleasing characteristic.

But, I would like to argue that the state and art of sloth have its appropriate place in society.

For instance, on a beautiful, any day afternoon even with demands and pre-scheduled events, take some time to sit and empty your mind. Not with busy work, but with mindfulness. Sit comfortably and concentrate on your breathing. Swipe away the intruding thoughts of errands and all the “shoulds” (I should get up, I should be productive…) and go deeper into slowing your breathing.

In other words, CHILL OUT A DAGGONE MINUTE!!!

We are all flying around in this fast-paced life and not getting a lot of time to be with ourselves and appreciate ourselves.

With autumn coming, get a basket or a box or even your pocket and pick up fallen leaves in their varying vibrant and beautiful colors and sizes and collect them. Stroll in the delight of full-throttle sloth.

Once you get back home, (hopefully your stroll takes you hours, not minutes) sit with your leaves to appreciate their structure – their veins, their size, their color, their texture. And then appreciate your structure – your complexity, your intelligence, your emotions.

Close your eyes and inhale the sweet air of appreciation. Happy Slothing!
